The Floor Contamination Monitor is used to measure surface contamination of alpha, beta and gamma emitting radionuclides on the floor.

The monitor is designed for use in nuclear power plants, radiochemical plants, research institutes with reactors, etc. For different workplaces, appropriate one or two channel models are available to optimize the measurement of alpha; alpha + beta; alpha + beta + gamma; alpha / beta and alpha / beta + gamma radiation.

The monitor has three basic components: the detection box, the operating handle and the display unit.

The detection box is equipped with a scintillation detector, which is integrated with the photomultiplier tube and the processing electronics. It provides a simple, fast and precise height adjustment mechanism between the detector and the floor. Four castors make operation simpler.

The three-layer light-tight foil and the protective grid of the detector window provide proven resistance and extend the service life of the detector while still maintaining good penetration of alpha and low-energy beta particles.

The stainless steel handle can be freely adjusted in height to suit the operation. The display unit is fixed on the top of the handle for easy reading of the measured values.

  1. The display unit is equipped with an LCD display and three control buttons.
  2. The buttons can switch the device on/off, the backlight display and the sound indication; the data display can also be changed.
  3. For each channel used, the background level can be measured and stored in the memory, which is then automatically deducted from the measurement result indicated on the display.
  4. The display unit can indicate the cps in the selected channel as a number and a logarithmic bar graph. It can indicate contamination in Bq or Bq/cm2, corresponding to a selected nuclide from a pre-selected nuclide library. If contamination is detected above a preset threshold, an acoustic alarm will sound. One or two threshold levels can be set.
  5. The use of low-energy electronics prolongs the battery life. The battery life status is shown on the display. Both standard and rechargeable batteries can be used. The display unit power can be provided by an adapter, which can also be used to recharge the battery.
  6. Basic service software for PC/notebook connected via USB is used to set basic parameters such as alarm levels.
